For over 40 years, Indigenous peoples and Canada have been attempting to implement modern treaties. This special issue will contain peer reviewed articles, interviews, and journalistic, creative, and artistic perspectives on modern Treaty implementation in Canada. Contributions are invited related to implementation broadly understood, with particular interest in submissions that address the themes of the SSHRC funded Modern Treaties Implementation Research Project, hosted by the Tlicho Government and administered by Carleton University, which is sponsoring this special issue (https://moderntreaties.tlicho.ca):

  • Indigenous and settler legal systems
  • Indigenous relationships to lands
  • Financing modern Treaties
  • Social wellbeing
  • Intergovernmental relations and multi-level governance

Brief (200 word) proposals should be sent to Joshua Gladstone (joshua.gladstone@northernpublicaffairs.ca) and Stephanie Irlbacher-Fox with the subject line NPA Call for Contributions to (care of GenevieveHarrison@Cunet.Carleton.Ca)  by February 15, 2019. Drafts are due by April 15, 2019.
